Our Approach

Most children can be shy or nervous during traditional studio photo sessions. This is why our approach to family photography is to take the session out of the studio, and bring it to your home or a fun outside location instead. Our best work comes from families that are relaxed and comfortable with us and with their surroundings. It’s only then that we can capture those natural, often unguarded moments in time that we think really make a beautiful image.

Gemma undertakes every family portrait session that we are commissioned for. As a former teacher and mother of two, she has a well practised ability to build a rapport with children and put them at ease quickly. She uses entirely natural light with none of the off camera lighting rigs that often intimidate children, which yields beautifully natural images.

Ideas for shoots can literally be anything you can imagine, from kicking a ball around in the back garden, playing in the autumn leaves at Abington park, or a winter’s walk around Stanwick Lakes. We try to tailor our family photography to you, which is why before your shoot, Gemma will work with you to understand what you like and what you don’t. The shoot can last anything from 1 hour to most of the day, and the number of images you get will entirely depend on the length of time you spend on the shoot and the location or activity you’ve chosen.
